As Trophy Lakes gears up for another season, we’ve made a few tweaks to keep you on your toes. Keep reading for the latest news from Trophy Locals, the latest plastic from Innova and Discraft as well as the few new surprises you’ll be experiencing on the course this upcoming summer.

Notable Performances:
Ace Hole #7 Red – Trevor Kruse
Ace, Hole #7 Red – Gram Anderson
Ace Hole #16 Red – Steven Stackley
Eagle Hole #11 Red – Matt DuBon
New Course Record: Blaine Kinkel – Blue: 51, Red: 46 (14 straight Birdies)

Latest and Greatest: After having just received our Spring orders from both Innova and Discraft, our Disc Golf ProShop is now overflowing with new plastic. Don’t feel bad for feeling like a kid in a candy store, we feel the same way, everyday. We’re still well stocked on Innova’s new Vulcan highspeed driver as well as their new Wahoo highspeed floater. We’ve also upped our game in the Discraft category, now carrying more Discraft plastic than ever before, more and more players are mixing it up with a variety of discs in their quiver, and why not? Not familiar with Discraft…just ask, or if you can catch him, talk to Trophy Local and course pro, Blaine Kinkel. Blaine is one of an elite few who’ve earned a Discraft sponsorship and rightfully so, you’d be hard pressed to find a more dedicated and personable ambassador for our sport, and he LOVES talking plastic.

Rumor has it: There’s chatter in the local disc golf community about a couple new courses in the works. A 9 hole course is being considered in the West Ashley area, just off Bees Ferry Rd. and another, a championship caliber course of 18 holes (or more), is another potential future course to find it’s home at the Governors Park on Daniel Island. As of now, this is all just rumor, but keep your fingers crossed and we’ll keep you posted as more info arises.

Thanks to the blood, sweat and tears from Trophy Local, Trevor Kruse, Trophy Lakes hosts some new features for the new year, including South Carolina’s only par 5.

Hole #14, measuring a staggering 1,020 ft. from the Blue Tees and a challenging 825 ft. from the Reds. With a long straight fairway, this hole may not seem too daunting at first glance, but keeping your disc in the fairway is not as easy as you might think. With a host of tree bordering either side with an oasis roughly half way down in the center of the fairway, this hole usually requires 3 well placed drives to give you the option for a run at a birdie. Once you make it to the green, you’ll find the basket nestled back into a small clearing at the edge of the woods.

The most recent change however, is to hole #1. A mainstay since the course has been established, hole #1 was and continues to be the best way to kick off a round at Trophy. The basket has been moved roughly 100 ft. short and to the right in anticipation for the new Trophy Lakes Wakeboard Cable Park coming this Fall. Not only has the basket moved, but to keep the hole both challenging and true to it’s original feel, both tee boxes have been moved accordingly. The Red tee now stands where the old Blue tee box used to reside (243 from the basket), and the Blues have been moved back closer to the lake just off the corner of the Judges Tower building (345 ft. from the basket). Both locations have multiple desirable lines to the basket, which one you choose is up to you.

Hole #6’s wooded fairway has been trimmed, weed-whacked and pruned to make this already crowded fairway just a little cleaner.

Hole #8’s basket has been moved back further down the shoreline forcing you to experiment with new discs on this once Ace-able hole. It’s still very possible, but you’ll have to up your game if you want a shot at an ace run from it’s now 328 ft. from the Blues and 284 ft. from the Reds.

Hole #18’s basket has also been moved back making your last hole even more demanding than ever at a distant 680 ft. from the Blues and 456 ft. from the Reds.
